Pain or Pleasure?

In my last post I talked about being specific when you set a goal and I bet there are many of you who set all sorts of New Year’s Resolutions on January 1st this year. In fact in the USA this year here ere the top 10 New Year’s resolutions.

  1. Losing Weight
  2. Getting Organised
  3. Spend Less, Save More
  4. Enjoy Life to the Fullest
  5. Stay fit and Healthy
  6. Learn Something Exciting
  7. Quit Smoking
  8. Help Others with their Dreams
  9. Fall in Love
  10. Spend more time with Family                                              – from statisiticbrain.com

After 6 months only 46% of people had kept their resolution. Interestingly 39% of people in their 20’s achieved their resolutions whilst only 14% of people over 50 achieved theirs.
What’s happening here? In order to achieve a specific goal, your motivation must be very strong and our motivation is made up of our desires and emotions. When you set a specific goal say “to lose10 kilos by the end of March 2015”, do you attach pleasure to obtaining the outcome or pain? Many people attach pain to achieving the outcome and along with that comes that little voice in your head – the subconscious mind which says” No you can’t – you always give up” The subconscious can be your little saboteur if you like and this is where our habits, beliefs and emotions reside and sometimes prevent you from achieving your goals. Sometimes will power alone is not enough and that is where you need some won’t power.

Hypnosis can help and go and do battle with that little saboteur and turn it into your biggest supporter so you have a very real chance of achieving that goal. So examine your motivation, imagine yourself when you have achieved the goal and when you feel more pleasure at the result than the pain of getting there, then the journey will be easy.
